Round 2: LSU CB Jalen Collins
Brandon Carr was asked to take a pay cut and there are huge concerns over Morris Claiborne and whether he can recover from his torn patellar tendon injury. Orlando Scandrick has made great strides since 2012 and Sterling Moore came into his own in 2014. If Carr declines the pay cut, it’s basically a guarantee that he’s going to be designated as a June 1st cut. Regardless of if that happens or not, the Cowboys need to look into drafting a cornerback. SEC cornerbacks are popular in the NFL and one guy that makes a lot of sense is Jalen Collins from LSU.
Although Collins started just ten games at LSU, he has a lot of positives that tell me he could be a good cornerback. At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Collins has the size to play cornerback in the NFL. He ran a 4.48 40-yard dash, a second-best 6.77 in the 3-cone drill, and one of the better broad jumps at 10’4″. Collins isn’t really physical with receivers, but he has great fluidity and decent ball skills that will allow him to be a real good No. 2 cornerback at the professional level. Sure he’s inexperienced, but Collins is an elite athlete that would be a great fit in Dallas.
