Round 7a: Michigan OLB Jake Ryan

Going back to Garrett’s “Right Kinda Guy” mantra, in the latter rounds, this is usually where Garrett likes to go with his personal favorites. Unfortunately, that has backfired at times against the Cowboys before. In the 2012 NFL Draft, instead of Vontaze Burfict, who is arguably one of the best inside linebackers in the league, the Cowboys drafted Caleb McSurdy in the seventh round.

For the sake of his team, Jake Ryan made the transition to the outside linebacker position after years of playing the inside linebacker position. Ryan is a workhorse. He wants to get better and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win. With a guy like Sean Lee to learn from, Ryan could help this team in a variety of ways. The Cowboys love captains and Garrett will be happy to go after one late in the draft, especially one from such an elite program like Michigan.
