Round 7b: William & Mary WR Tre McBride

With Dez Bryant coming back for another year, everything is all good, for now, in Big D. While I do believe Bryant will be a Cowboy for the rest of his life, I also believe that the wide receiver position is still something that needs to be upgraded. Terrance Williams was nowhere to be found for around six games last season and although he upped his game in the postseason, his inability to separate as well as his body-catching problems keep me from believing he’s a good No. 2 option. The wide receiver position in this year’s draft class is so deep and that’s why the Cowboys could draft a player like Tre McBride who is flying below the radar.

At 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, McBride has good size. He has a huge catch-radius that allows him to sky up and bring down the football. He has great natural speed, but his main problem is that he looks sluggish and sloppy on his routes. With Dwayne Harris likely gone this offseason, the Cowboys need a returner and while a ton of players can do this job, McBride would fit the bill because of his straight-line speed. McBride would be another nice weapon for the Cowboys, as his impact could be felt on offense and special teams.
