Round 7a: Stefon Diggs, Wide Receiver, Maryland
I was a bit surprised when I saw that Miller had Stefon Diggs available in the seventh round. Granted, it’s yet to be seen what his role will be in the NFL, as he is a bit of a wild card, but it should be said that Diggs has a ton of potential to be an efficient offensive weapon at the next level as well as a matchup-nightmare. Wide receiver isn’t really a position people are talking about when it comes to draft needs, but Terrance Williams was extremely inconsistent in 2014 and even though Devin Street, who has potential, will get a bigger role in 2014, the Cowboys still need to add depth at this position and they can do by adding a receiver late in the draft.
This offseason, the Cowboys lost Dwayne Harris to the New York Giants in free agency. Losing Harris didn’t really hurt much for the offense, but it most certainly hurts the Cowboys’ special teams. Regardless, Diggs is basically a better version of the two, as he is not only a better returner than Harris, but he can get some solid reps on offense as well. However, Diggs isn’t the best gunner, while that was a huge part of Harris’ role on special teams. Regardless, Diggs would not only immediately help the Cowboys’ return game, but he would also have a unique role on this offense as well.
