John Crockett, Running Back, North Dakota State
I fully expect the Cowboys to upgrade the running back position early in the draft. Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reported that the Cowboys will likely address the position in the first two rounds of the draft:
"Running back will be in the mix in the first two rounds if not the first three. They need defensive help at every level at this point, so you’ll see them look heavy at defense, but they need a runner too. At least at this point they do. Heck, I wouldn’t rule out another offensive lineman either. In my recent mock draft, I had the Cowboys selecting Tevin Coleman in the second round. Even if they do that, it won’t hurt to add another running back, especially in the undrafted period, and one player who makes a ton of sense is John Crockett. Although many running backs would have success behind Dallas’ offensive line, it takes a really smart player to play in Dallas’ zone-blocking scheme. For starters, Crockett has excellent breakaway speed. On top of this speed, the North Dakota State star can cut quickly, thus showing off another reason of why he is tailored to play in a zone-blocking scheme. I don’t see Crockett ever making a difference as an every-down player, but I do believe Crockett could have a role in an offense, much similar to the one Joseph Randle has with the Cowboys.
