Hogan Davidson Receives Inaugural SportDFW.com Brahma Warrior Award

Second year forward, Hogan Davidson, was named the recipient of the inaugural SportDFW.com – Brahma Warrior Award. “This recognition is important as players who tend to go the extra mile are valuable on the ice and in the locker room,” said Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong.

The Brahma Warrior Award will be presented each season to the Lone Star Brahmas player “Who gives the extra effort both physically and mentally. He displays a competitive attitude by pushing himself and his teammates every day with a fearless and relentless attitude.” The award was voted on by Brahmas’ beat writer Kirk Estes, broadcaster Nick Marek, Captain Sebastian Vidmar, Alternate Captains Haydon Hansen and Quinn Carroll.

Davidson was named on each ballot and was listed first on four of the five. Others receiving votes were goalie TJ Black, forward Quinn Carroll, forward Sebastian Vidmar and defenseman Caleb Thompson.

Prior to the start of the 2014/15 campaign, the 5’ 7” – 170 pound native of Duluth, MN was asked what Brahmas’ fans could expect from him during the season. Davidson’s response was direct and predictive of things to come. “They can expect me to lay everything on the line to win and protect my teammates,” he said. That is exactly what he gave them every time his skates hit the ice throughout the regular season and into Lone Star’s playoff run.

Hogan’s efforts both on and off the ice did not go unnoticed “Hogan is a perfect example of a player who knows his role on the team,” said Nick Marek. “He brings his energy and eagerness to work every day at practice and he is the definition of a strong teammate. He plays the game with his head on a swivel and it’s an art to see him block shots.” The people he shared a locker room with every day had high praise for his work ethic as well. Comments from teammates included “he is a very gritty player.” “He plays with unbelievable passion.” Maybe the most telling comment of all came from his Captain, Sebastian Vidmar, “He really is special; he always gives 100% and doesn’t let any obstacle come between him and his goals.”

“Players like Davidson are difficult to find,” Wildfong said. “They have one of the toughest jobs on the ice and have such great impact on both our team as well as the opponent. Having a player that battles during practice and sets the tone on ice during games is what we call one of the intangibles.”

“It’s humbling to know that not only did you journalists choose me, but my teammates as well,” said Davidson. “I love the team and appreciate that the leaders recognized my efforts. It solidifies all the hard work I put in during the season.” Showing a team first attitude that he helped spread throughout the locker room, Davidson added, “Personally, I feel like every one of the guys could have won this award. We had a remarkable team this year, and I’m happy I could contribute.”

The entire roster came into the season with some lofty goals. They not only wanted to make the playoffs, they set their sights firmly on an NAHL Robertson Cup Championship. After finishing with the league’s second best record in the regular season, the Brahmas began a playoff push that saw them fall one goal shy of the Robertson Cup Finals. “The season as a whole was truly a memorable one. I’ve never been on a team where everyone was so focused on putting in our best efforts, day in and day out,” Davidson said reflecting on the run. “Yes, we fell a little short, but we were a bounce away from making it to the finals. We have nothing to hang our heads about, we gave it our all, and I’m proud of the team and coaches.”

One thing that the Brahma faithful have to look forward to is that Davidson has every intention of returning next season to take care of some unfinished business. “I can’t wait to be back in a Brahmas jersey fighting for next year’s Robertson Cup.”
