The Dallas Mavericks are in the need for a center or two. They may choose to stick with Tyson Chandler and sign him to a new deal, or they may look outside house for the answer. Either way, they are weighing their options in a free agent period stocked with big men.
The Dallas Mavericks are going to have to strike hard and fast on this market. With so few players currently on the roster, it’s going to be difficult to sell a player on joining a mystery team with only a 37 year old former superstar locked in.
The incumbent, Tyson Chandler, has the inside track on claiming the job of starting center. Top Mavericks’ brass loves the man and Chandler loves the Mavericks right back. After parting ways after the 2011 Championship season, Chandler was outwardly upset the Mavs declined to offer him a new deal. He took it as an insult (rightly so) and will not be patient if the Mavs drag their feet on locking him up again.
Because of that, Tyson Chandler makes upgrading the center position a tricky one. He won’t stand by while the Mavs look over his shoulder for a better/sexier/younger center so the Dallas Mavericks will have to be quick and decisive in their search, or they risk losing out on everyone – Including Tyson Chandler.
