Last week, Dallas Cowboys’ fans nationwide were holding their breath collectively as they watched nervously on whether the Dallas Cowboys would reach an agreement with Dez Bryant. Cowboys Nation was panicky! Everyone had an opinion about the situation. Some Cowboys’ fans said they would reach an agreement.

Others said they wouldn’t. Some fans believed Bryant was bluffing.

There were all types of hypothetical scenarios among Cowboys’ fans: Dez would cave in and play for the franchise tag.  Dez might sit out the whole season. If Dez misses the first two games and the Cowboys lose, Jerry Jones will immediately pay him. Dez is too greedy!

No way he’s worth that much money! He needs to play for the franchise tag, dammitt!  Oh heck, the Cowboys can win without Dez! Here we go again, Jerry Jones playing hard ball. The Cowboys will have a losing season without Dez!

There were many more profane comments I’d rather not share. But you get the point.

The last comment was certainly true. Without Dez, the Cowboys were doomed to have a losing season or go 8-8 at best. I don’t care how positive a thinker you are about the Cowboys.

However, Cowboys’ fans don’t have to worry about any of that negativity. When the $70 million dollar contract with $45 million guaranteed was announced as the accepted deal, social media went into a frenzy. Dez Bryant reaching a long term deal with the Cowboys was certainly the most talked about topic on Twitter and on ESPN.  Cowboys Nation exhaled as they held up their wine glasses and gave each other a congratulatory toast because the best WR in the NFL will be with America’s Team for the next five years.

Our savior is here to stay.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys Nation went from not knowing if Dez would suit up for the first game of the season to imagining the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl, hoisting that long awaited Lombardi Trophy. The only thing Cowboys’ fans could think about was Dez scoring touchdown after touchdown on helpless DB’s. Watching him use his superior, athletic talent to out leap defenders and make amazing catches that actually count.

Witnessing Dez torch the league with another 16 touchdowns. Maybe more.

Because Dez is definitely capable of doing that. Only bona fide play makers have 56 career TD’s and over 5,000 receiving yards  in their first 5 years in the league. Not to mention having more TD’s than any other WR in the last three seasons (41). Yes, that’s more than you Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and Jordy Nelson.

Players who are seen as Dez’s equal.

But they aren’t!

Speaking of equal, that’s exactly what Dez brings to the Cowboys’ offense and that’s the main reason a deal was reached. Jones and company knew the offense wouldn’t produce on a high octane level without him. Defenses would stack the line of scrimmage and dare Tony Romo to find a WR. The running game would’ve suffered and Romo would’ve reverted back to passing the ball 40 or 50 times a game.

The Cowboys didn’t want any of that.

Dez forces teams to double and triple team him. His presence will open up the running game, save Romo from injuring his back and allows role players like Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley to shine.

This is what Cowboys Nation recognized. They knew that besides Romo, the most important player at the skill position was Dez. Especially with DeMarco Murray gone.

The last time Cowboys Nation was this happy, ecstatic, jubilant and over excited about a player happened back in 1995 when the Cowboys signed Free Agent Deion Sanders

Jones knew what Cowboys Nation knew all along: Dez is the best WR in the game, a difference maker and our best bet to winning the SB.

Just like “Prime Time” helped us back  in ’95.

Ironically, the last time the Boys won a SB.

That’s what Cowboys Nation is expecting from Dez.

Let’s all exhale.

And toast to that.
