Redshirt Freshman Duke Catalon Also Moving On

Is it a big deal when your third-ranked running back in your ’14 recruiting class decides to transfer after just a year with the program?

Well, in this case I would say it probably isn’t, especially when you’re a major program like Texas and Houston high school star Duke Catalon walks.

Further, when you’re expecting big things from Johnathan Gray entering his highly anticipated senior season, one might think that Catalon was closer to expendable than he was vital.

Considering the injury history surrounding Gray, it might have been a good idea for Catalon to stick around. Yes, there’s a big crowd at running back at UT – there always is.

Yet, if Catalon was confident enough to bet on himself, opportunity might have been greater than he expected. Injuries happen, academics become an issue and other factors emerge that could have earned carries.

Of everything on this list, this problem is likely the least serious, especially given the depth Strong has at the position.

However, it will be interesting to see how Texas responds if Gray is again slowed or limited by a 2013 Achilles injury that has the former Aledo High School star still searching for a 1,000 yard rushing season with the Longhorns.
