126. Final. 3. 135. 14

The Texas Rangers extended their slim lead over the Houston Astros with a 14-3 blowout victory in game three of the critical four-game series in Arlington.

If the Houston Astros hated the way Tuesday night’s loss against the Texas Rangers got started, they had to be pretty disgusted by the way Wednesday night’s affair got started.

The Rangers offense exploded following a three up, three down first inning for starting pitcher Martin Perez. Texas would send nine batters to the plate while racking up six runs on six hits to basically end the game right there and then.

While the long ball wasn’t present during Tuesday night’s victory, it came rushing back in the third game of this American League West-deciding series.

Mike Napoli launched a three-run shot to make the score 4-0 Texas, then Rougned Odor nailed a two-run line drive to the right field seats to make the score 6-0, all in the 1st inning.

Not to be left out of the home run derby, Prince Fielder offered two nearly identical home runs to the porch in right field which turned this game into a joke.

Bobby Wilson got his first homer with Texas which finally ended the Rangers onslaught at 14-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning. When Wildon hits a homer, you know things must be going pretty well.

Houston ace Dallas Keuchel lasted just 4 2/3 innings en route to his worst performance of the year – this from a leading Cy Young candidate. He gave up a staggering 9 runs on 11 hits.

Rangers lefty Martin Perez was remarkably efficient while still allowing 9 hits, but just a single run. The Astros hits were so scattered that there was never much of a threat to Texas’ offensive explosion. Perez got his third win of the year and is now 3-5.

Colby Lewis, who came close to a perfect game against the Oakland A’s last Friday, takes the hill for the Rangers in the series finale tomorrow night at 7p.m. CDT. Another victory would push the Rangers to 2.5 games over the Astros in the AL West and could also put Houston in a tie with the Minnesota Twins for the second AL Wild Card spot.

Ian Who? Rangers’ Prrince Fielder Owns The Astros (Dallas Morning News – Tim Cowlishaw)

With Rougned Odor manning second base the way he is, Ian Kinsler’s name is seldom mentioned anymore. Trade away for slugger Prince Fielder, it might not be long before it’s forgotten altogether.

Is There A Better Choice Than Jeeff Banister For Manager Of The Year? (DMN – Evan Grant)

Manager of the year is seldom an easy award to determine, but Rangers manager Jeff Banister has made as good a case as anyone else for this year’s honor. Factoring the kind of start the Rangers had, which included the loss of pitchers Yu Darvish and Derek Holland, it’s hard to argue against the Rangers first-year manager.
