Who the Cowboys are is a question being asked around the world of football, it is time for them to figure it out.

Coming into the season many experts and fans thought the Cowboys would be a run-first team and use its defense to slow offenses and win the field position battles. It would appear on defense the Cowboys could be better than just a bend-but-don’t-break defense.

The offense however, is looking for an identity.

With Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant still out, the Cowboys don’t really have that one thing they do well. It is time for Garrett to figure out who the Cowboys are and get the players to believe in that. If they can start to figure it out now, when Romo does return it could mean a late push into the playoffs and maybe even a deep run.

The defense has to figure out how to generate turnovers, but with Hardy, Rolando McClain, Sean Lee, and Randy Gregory all about to play together for the first time as a full unit, what was seen against the Patriots could be a taste of things to come. It is the offense that now needs that kind of confidence.

As of this week the Cowboys rank 29th in turnover margin and 30th in takeaways. If the defense is going to carry the team, these numbers have to change.

Either way, an identity on one side of the ball or the other would go a long way for the confidence of the team.
