The in-season additions of a running backs from Seattle could be the answer.

Christine Michael looks to carry a bigger load of the Cowboys rushing attack this week. How much remains to be seen but the big bodied back from Seattle should inspire the entire unit to pick up the intensity in New Jersey on Sunday.

Running back Rod Smith only played a few times for the Seattle Seahawks before the Dallas Cowboys scooped him up. While I am sure many expect him to be involved in the running game somehow, I believe it is the return game where Smith has a chance to shine.

The Cowboys have done poorly in returning kicks this season. Wide receiver Lucky Whitehead did little to look like a valuable returner, and the injury to running back Lance Dunbar has made the return game below average. Smith isn’t the fastest guy, but has pretty good vision and has some power to his running style. Both could help the Cowboys.

While it isn’t assured that Smith will return kicks, or even play, it is time for someone to help with the field position from special teams. If a punt return or kick off return can get extra yards, it will greatly help both the offense and the defense in total field position. It is time for the special teams to be special, and the Giants game is the time to do so.
