Dallas Cowboys Players Most Likely to be Cut: #4 Terrell McClain

Some may have forgotten Terrell McClain is even on the roster. The 6’2” 302lb defensive tackle has had an injury-plagued career with the Dallas Cowboys that has caused him to miss far more games than play. The 27-year-old DT has versatility to effectively play both the 1-technique DT spot as well as the 3-technique undertackle.

Check out: Understanding the Defensive Line Techniques

Effective when healthy, McClain’s time with the team has likely come to a close. McClain is on the books for $1.1M in 2016. If cut, the Cowboys will only need to digest $100,000. The remaining $1M will be cap savings and can be spent on a much more reliable option.

For as strange as it sounds, it will be sad to see Terrell McClain go. He was often just as effective as Nick Hayden at the 1-tech, and nearly as quick as Tyrone Crawford at the undertackle. He could have served as the ultimate rotation guy, backing up both DT spots and allowing the Cowboys to go deep on roster spots elsewhere.

More from Dallas Cowboys

With so many younger, cheaper, and more reliable options competing for the same snaps, it would be foolish for the Dallas Cowboys to invest another million in McClain. Not only that, but there is a high likelihood the Dallas Cowboys will be investing in DT in the upcoming draft. It’s a case of-  too many players, not enough snaps, and too much money for Terrell McClain.

McClain just never seemed to get the chance to show what he can do and all indications are the Dallas Cowboys are ready to move on without him.
