Deon King, Linebacker, Norfolk St.

I had to search for some tape on King. King won the Buch Buchanon award as the best defensive player in FCS. Watching what I was able to find on him, the kid can tackle. He disengages blocks well and is always around the ball. He seems to sniff out plays and finds the shortest way to the ball carrier.

King is easily the best player on Norfolk St.’s defense and watching him, he plays with good speed and has learned to wrap up his tackles extremely well. He had fluid hips and can get into the backfield on a lot of plays. He has good agility, however needs to work on his ability to cover tight ends if he wants to have a shot in the NFL. He does have some ability to rush the passer however.

King did work out for the Colts and 49ers as well and has drawn interest from several other NFL teams. He signed with the Cowboys and is looking to make it onto the practice squad. He is a project coming from an FCS school, but flashes raw talent and his ceiling looks high. If he can make plays on special teams and show he has these talents against better competition he could stick around.

Arjen Colquhoun, Cornerback, Michigan St.

Arjen Colquhoun was a running back and wide receiver in high school. He became a cornerback in college and was part of a formidable defense at Michigan St. Watching Arjen, he had had some rough spots in college. He was primarily a special teams player for most of his tenure at Michigan St. until an injury thrust him into a starter role this season.

He improved greatly as the season went on, and honestly might have been the best corner on the team. He has 4.5 40 speed and can get physical at the point of attack. He isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty in tackling and did cause two fumbles this season. He will need to add a little size if he wants to play on the outside, however, might find himself covering a slot receiver early in his career.

Where he can stick around is again on special teams as he adds some size and technique to his game. He can run well and has decent agility to stick with slot wide receivers. He does tend to go after the ball at the highest point and will challenge balls well. He needs to show steady improvement, but could be a valuable depth player.
