Much-needed experience was gained in the playoffs.

Coming into the season, the Stars had gained some valuable new players, like Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya, who were set to go a long way in helping the team develop.

It was critical for the Stars to play well and earn a spot in the playoffs in order to finally get their young core into contention. As the playoffs approached, an opportunity to kickstart the run presented itself as the team earned home ice with the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

By playing in many tight games, some players like Jamie Benn, Cody Eakin, Antoine Roussel and the rest of the Stars’ roster learned more about the playoffs, like playing in close games, playing OT hockey in the playoffs and playing in elimination games, whether they were the team attempting to move on or avoid being eliminated.

They gained valuable knowledge this season which, in turn, is going to translate into future success as they continue to compete in the coming seasons.

Before a team is ready to win the Cup, they go through a stage of learning, where they will often play some veteran playoff teams who know a thing about or two about operating in the postseason.

The Stars now have the experience that they need to move forward as one of the top teams in the NHL.
