There is a lot of hope floating around the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, the question seems to be what can stop them in 2016?

First, let’s just get the most obvious answer out of the way. Injuries can stop just about any team from being a real contender. As seen last season the Dallas Cowboys had not only their fair share of injuries, but injuries to almost all of their key players.

Yes, just about all of them. So beyond injuries what could possibly stop the Cowboys this season is a small list, but it needs to be addressed.

First, the most obvious answer is the lack of a viable pass rush. The Cowboys have ranked so poorly since DeMarcus Ware left that many believe the Cowboys might be the worst pass rushing team in the league.

It is hard to deny that as the statistics point to them being at the bottom of the league. While there is still plenty of offseason left, the pass rush might be the biggest hindrance to the Cowboys in 2016.

The next logical finger to be pointed is the secondary. Sure, it will be a huge improvement having cornerback Orlando Scandrick back and moving Byron Jones to safety, but Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr are not favorites among the Dallas faithful.

Now this topic was discussed here. The real question will be if the secondary can make up for some of the issues of the pass rush or vice versa. The Cowboys seem to be pursuing some free agents at the moment, so this area could improve.

As many have said for years, coaching.

More from Dallas Cowboys

There are many who love Jason Garrett, and there are many who don’t. Garrett has been mediocre for his career and doesn’t have the fire many fans want to see. He has time management issues and a lack of killer instinct to keep the proverbial foot on the throat of teams as he seemingly starts playing safe way too early in games.

Coach Garrett could hold the Cowboys back more than anything on this list if he can’t motive his team and learn how to put teams away.

The last thing that can keep the Cowboys down this season is bad luck. The Cowboys have a fairly easy schedule, that being said, football is a funny game. A bounce here, a bobble there, and any team can win on any given Sunday.

The Cowboys have seen their fair share of both good and bad luck over the years and until the games are played, no one knows what it going to happen.

I don’t see the offense has any problem this season, unless injuries strike again. The depth and playmaking on the offense when it is healthy could very well be the best in the NFL. If Tony Romo does go down, the run game and passing game won’t be as anemic as it was last season. While many don’t think Kellen Moore is the answer, I believe he is more of an answer than anyone on the roster besides Romo last season, and most likely this one too.

So the Cowboys are being talked about as real contenders this season. They should be, this offense could be amazing. The defense should be helped a ton by a potent offense. If it all comes together the Cowboys could be a team no one wants to face. Now, how long until the season starts?
