5. Feb. 4, 2016 – Stars 4, Avalanche 3 (OT)

Heading into the 2015-16 season, the Stars were looking for some success against the Colorado Avalanche, a team they had struggled with for quite some time. Since the 2013-14 season (Tyler Seguin‘s first in Dallas), the Stars were just 1-6-3 against the Avs.

Things didn’t start off much better last year as they lost to them again in the second game of the season and once more late in January, making that record 1-8-3.

On Feb. 4, the Stars took a trip to Colorado on their second game of a five-game streak against Central Division opponents.

In the third period, they faced a 3-2 deficit as they were attempting to avoid yet another loss to the Avs. Antti Niemi made a huge save on Nathan MacKinnon at 4:14 to ensure that the deficit stayed at just one. Then at 11:20, Jason Demers scored a power play goal tying the game at three.

As overtime got underway, John Klingberg ended the game fast, with a goal just 35 seconds in that gave the Stars a 4-3 victory. They had finally broken through and snapped their eight-game losing streak to the Avs.

A few notable stats for the game were Ales Hemsky‘s seven shots and the Stars outshooting the Avs 44-26.
