Dallas Cowboys Greatest Quarterbacks: Number Four – Tony Romo (2004-present, 127 starts)

Tony Romo is currently the top quarterback in the franchise, and though he’s battling some injuries in the latter part of his career, the Dallas Cowboys signal caller has had an exceptional career for the most part with the franchise.

The playoff wins haven’t come like many have hoped for, as the Cowboys are 2-4 in six playoff starts by Romo, but he’s become their most prolific passer when it comes to the stat sheet. Plus, the Cowboys have won more games (79 wins) than they’ve lost (49) when they have Romo as the starting quarterback during the regular season.

As for Romo’s passing records, he has over 2,000 more passing yards than Troy Aikman on fewer completions and fewer attempts

For his career through the ’15 season, Romo has the all-time Cowboys pass mark in passing yardage with 34,154 yards on 4,331 attempts with a 65.3 completion percentage. He also has collected 247 touchdown passes and 117 interceptions.

As for Romo’s passing records, he has over 2,000 more passing yards than Troy Aikman on fewer completions and fewer attempts, but the game is played a lot differently than it was in the days of Roger Staubach, Danny White and Aikman.

If you look at just the regular season, Romo’s career has been great, but his playoff record has to come into account as well. The Cowboys have not reached an NFC Championship in his tenure, and since taking over for Drew Bledsoe in ’06, the Cowboys have just two playoff wins, both in Wild Card games.

Romo makes the Cowboys a competitive team, and even though he has many Cowboys passing records, he’s still not in the Top 3 of the Cowboys’ all-time quarterback list until he can get them to at least an NFC Championship game.
