Dallas Cowboys Greatest Quarterbacks: Number Three – Danny White (1976-88, 92 starts)

Danny White is possibly the most underrated quarterback ever to play for the Dallas Cowboys, as he did help lead the franchise to the NFC Championship game for three straight years from 1980-82. Though the Cowboys lost all three of those games to the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Redskins, White has to be commended for being the starting quarterback of those teams.

In those NFC title games, White combined for just two touchdown passes and two interceptions (three games), and for his ten games of playoff football for the Cowboys, White completed 206 passes (57.2 percent completion percentage) for 2,284 yards, 15 touchdown passes, and 16 interceptions.

Like Romo, White never won a Super Bowl or even got the Cowboys to the big game

White’s regular season stats saw him gain 62 wins and 30 losses with a 59.7 completion percentage. White also passed for 155 touchdowns and had 132 interceptions.

Like Romo, White never won a Super Bowl or even got the Cowboys to the big game, but the Cowboys were still very good with White as the starter. Let’s be honest, his play at quarterback was much better than most others who have worn the star on the silver helmet.

Many teams would have loved to have White on their roster in the ’80s, and to start double-digit games for four of his seasons in the league and still make 92 starts. White must have been doing something correctly to have Tom Landry keep him as his starting quarterback for parts eight straight seasons from 1980-87.
