College football preview (week three): Top 5 regional games to watch
Mississippi State (1-1) at #20 LSU (1-1)
Both the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-1) and LSU Tigers (1-1) enter week three with 1-1 records and they’re both coming off victories. Granted, the LSU win came against FCS opponent Jacksonville State while the Bulldogs defeated a solid South Carolina team. However, the wins tell one story while the losses tell a completely different one.
The Tigers opened the season at home with a two point loss to the Wisconsin Badgers: a pretty respectable loss in college football. Mississippi State though, lost to a less-intimidating South Alabama squad.
It’s the SEC opener for the Tigers while Mississippi State is already 1-0 in conference play.
Why we should watch?
If anything else, everyone should be intrigued to see who starts at quarterback for either team. On the LSU side, Junior Brandon Harris began the season as the lead signal-caller for the Tigers, but Head Coach Les Miles made a change mid-game against Jacksonville State. Junior Danny Etling took over and passed for 100 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. Coach Miles has been pretty silent about the name of his starter against the Bulldogs, but signs are pointing towards Etling.

For Mississippi State, the choice is between a pair of dual-threat quarterbacks in sophomore Nick Fitzgerald and junior Damian Williams. Fitzgerald ran for 195 yards and passed for 178 with two touchdowns in week two against the Gamecocks. In the opener, Williams rushed for 93 yards and passed for 143 with a touchdown. So, tune in to discover the quarterback matchup.

Prediction (Purely for entertainment purposes, no wagering please)
To be honest, this would be a lot easier if we knew who was going to start at quarterback. But, the stronger defense belongs to the Tigers. This has defensive battle in the trenches written all over it, and both teams will reach the end zone a time or two but they will likely come late in the 3rd quarter or after. LSU will pull out late and win this one 24-14.
