Local Area Bowl Games/Predictions

Tis the season to go bowling, as local area DFW universities go showcase their football talents from around the region.

For the 2016 college football season, only three area schools were invited to attend bowls this season. These colleges range from areas such as Denton, Waco and Fort Worth. The University of North Texas (UNT), Baylor University and Texas Christian University (TCU) were all selected to bowl games this 2016 season.

With the bowl season just days away, it is never too early/late to look at the games this season and how the local area teams will fair this bowl season:

UNT: One of the biggest surprises this season, was the UNT football team. The mean green were invited to the Heart of Dallas bowl this 2016 year. Their opponent is a familiar foe whom they already beat this season. UNT will face-off against Army Tuesday December 27th in hopes of improving their overall bowl record. Throughout their history, the green team is 2-5 in bowl games. Their last bowl game win came two years in the same exact bowl where they beat out the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.

The University of North Texas finished this season 5-7 and fourth in the Central USA-West division. Some of the team’s highlights came with big wins against Rice, Marshall and soon to be opponent Army.  In their first meeting this season, the big green beat Army 35-18 in what proved to a one side affair. Since their lost to UNT, Army has gone 2-2 and still has one more game left to play this season against rival Navy. If rematches prove anything, it is that the second time around always proves to spectacular.

Prediction – UNT 30 Army 21

Baylor: Another team that plays on December 27th is Baylor University. The Baylor Bears were invited to the Cactus Bowl this 2016 season in Phoenix Arizona, where they will face-off against the Boise State Broncos. In their bowl game history, the bears have an overall record of 11-11. Their last bowl win came just last year in the Russell Athletic Bowl where they beat then opponent North Carolina 49-38. The team will look to improve their bowl record as the Broncos loom.

Baylor University began the season 6-0 and had high hopes of making the college football playoffs. After starting off the year undefeated, the team went on too lose their last six games of the season. The last time the bears won a game in 2016, was back on October 15th against Kansas. Baylor’s upcoming opponent Boise State lost just two games this season and has an overall record of 10-2 for the year. This upcoming Cactus Bowl will prove to be an interesting one as one team will look to get back on the winning track, as the other has dreams of capping off a fantastic year.

TCU: On December 30th, the TCU Horn Frogs will take on the Georgia Buldogs in the Liberty Bowl. The Liberty Bowl takes place in Memphis Tennessee, three days after Baylor plays their bowl games. For their overall bowl record, the horn frogs are 15-15-1. The last time TCU won a bowl game was this year. The team beat Oregon 47-41 in the Alamo bowl back on January 2nd. TCU will look to improve their overall bowl record as the horn frogs have won their last two bowl games.

For the season, the horn frogs finished 6-6 and fifth in the big 12. Their opponent on the other, finished 7-5 and third in the SEC East division. Both TCU and Georgia lost their final games of the season and will towards the Liberty to get their big break, as they finished off the 2016 college season. TCU must bring the will power like they did against rival Baylor this season.

Prediction: Georgia 30 TCU 21

Next: Mean Green Bowl fate is in the hands of Navy
