The Dallas Cowboys might have to have the conversation fans are dreading, it is the right thing to do.

Before we continue, let’s make it very clear, this is not a slamming of Dak Prescott or Tony Romo article. This is about the conversation that could end up happening based off of the past few games and what could occur in the next few. While there are people who do not want to hear this conversation, but it needs to happen.

The Dallas Cowboys are sitting at 12-2 right now and control their playoff destiny. They are already in, but seeding is still up in the air. The loss to the New York Giants kept the Cowboys from home-field advantage and a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Make no mistake, the Cowboys need to win the next game, it is a must win if they want to play at home. The problem is, the offense hasn’t looked good for a few games now.

If Prescott struggles over the next game or two, the conversation on putting Tony Romo back in needs to happen.

Looking back, the Cowboys passing game has been off since the Redskins game. Dak Prescott threw for over 300 yards against the Ravens and since hasn’t broken 200. Some of the issues have been the play calling and getting away from the run. But, some of the issues look to be on Dak Prescott.

Since the start of the season, there have been throws from Prescott that have been behind receivers, short, or over the head. The last few games have been quite blatant this is an issue.

If the Cowboys are to make some noise in the playoffs, they have to figure out the offense quickly.

The defense has slowly been improving, even without a consistent pass rush. The offense has slowed to a crawl, and it needs to be fixed. The fact the Cowboys have the best offensive line and running back in the league, should make us all wonder why they are getting away from the run so fast in games.

If Prescott struggles over the next game or two, the conversation on putting Tony Romo back in needs to happen. The infamous rookie wall could be a factor with Prescott, or maybe it is the playcalling. While there is a lot to like this season, if we are being honest, there are some issues as of late.

It is a conversation that many fans are firmly on one side or the other. Romo supporters bring up his experience level as a key factor to bring him in. Prescott supporters are saying if he is the future he needs to play. Neither are wrong, but to write off having the conversation is short-sighted. The Cowboys have the best backup in the league right now, to not take advantage of that if things start going south would be foolish.

Sure, the Cowboys face a surging Buccaneers team next week and if they can find their way on offense, the conversation may not seriously happen. However, if we are truly looking at what might be best for the team, then maybe if Prescott struggles again it might be time to let Romo play. It isn’t about which quarterback people like better, it is about which gives them a better chance at winning.

The conversation might happen — it might not. However, before we all start taking sides we need to step back and look at how they have played the last few weeks. It hasn’t been pretty and they have won a few games they shouldn’t have. Where they go from here could be coming to a head in the next few weeks, and the conversation won’t be wrong to have.
