Round Three – Roderick Johnson – Tackle – Florida St.

I know I will get knocked for this pick a little bit, but let’s be honest for a second. The Dallas Cowboys have Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott in the backfield for years to come. Right tackle has been good, but not on par with the rest of the offensive line. Doug Free has had both ups and downs, and it is time to upgrade the position. Johnson in the late second round could be an absolute steal.

Johnson was one of the best left tackles in college football for the last two seasons. While he still needs some improvement on his mechanics and burst off the ball, he is an immediate upgrade at right tackle with an ability to play left tackle if needed.

He has a strong punch and is a top flight blocker in the running game. He can get to the second level faster than just about any lineman in the draft and would add a huge plus to the Cowboys rushing attack.

He will need work on his footwork as he is a little choppy and could get beat with speed. He has all of the tools you could want in a tackle, but needs to become a little more aggressive exploding off the line and not waiting for the defensive end to come to him. He has great length and uses it well, but until he fixes the footwork a little he needs to stay on the right side of the line.
