Round Four – Zay Jones – WR – East Carolina

Don’t know who Zay Jones is? You should. Jones has the record in FBS history for most receptions in a season and is considered the most prolific receiver in FBS, ever. His father was a man named Robert Jones.

Don’t remember him?

He was one of the linebackers the Cowboys drafted in the 90s and won three Super Bowls. The connection is strong with Jones and could help if the Cowboys want to draft him.

Jones is on a whole different level as a wide receiver. His numbers were slightly inflated due to injuries all over the Pirates corps. However, the thing that makes Jones so unbelievable is he can play all five wide receiver positions with ease.

A lot of receivers specialize in either outside or slot positions, Jones specializes in all of them. Even with defenses like Navy knowing he would be thrown to, he had himself a 212 yard day. Oh, did I mention he has run the 40 between 4.42 and 4.5 consistently? Well now you know.

The downside to Jones is he played for a terrible East Carolina team. His numbers were inflated and at only 6’1” he is a not the ideal size for an outside WR. He has a ton of talent, but against good defensive backs it remains to be seen if he is what everyone thinks he is. He will need to have a great Senior Bowl to shake the small school tag. He is one of the smartest players in the draft and that could be a huge advantage.
