Dallas Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft: Cowboys Score Big
By Reid Hanson
Round 7, pick 228
Al-Quadin Muhammad
Position: Edge
Height: 6’4” Weight: 255lbs
Key Trait: Rare Explosive Edge Rusher
The seventh round is where you really gamble. The likelihood of a seventh rounder making the team is slim so you might as well reach for someone who has unrealized potential. And Mohammad is that man.
his skill level says the sky is the limit.
Al-Quadin Mohammad has that rare explosion and athleticism that translate to the right defensive end position. Quick twitch players of this size are a rare find late in the draft, and when you find them there, it’s usually for good reason.
Mohammad is a player who always seems to get in trouble. In fact, he’s missed more games in collage than he played. Because of this, he’s exceptionally raw and largely unproven. This is a project player that will need grooming but his skill level says the sky is the limit.
With Randy Gregory fresh on all of our minds, it’s hard to be excited for a player like Mohammad (or to a lesser extent, Tabor in round two). Luckily, Mohammad doesn’t have the same substance abuse red flags.
The Dallas Cowboys are devoid of talent at RDE, and as discussed before, the RDE is the most important position on the defense. Barnett in the first round may prove to be that RDE the Cowboys have been searching for. But for the cost of a seventh round flyer, Mohammad has the ability to be one as well.
At the very least Mohammad could start from day one as a situational pass-rusher. If he kept his nose clean and took to coaching he could be so much more.
