Matt Milano, LB, Boston College – Projected Round(s) – 5-6

The Dallas Cowboys love linebackers. It is rare for them to go through a draft and not try to find at least one LB for depth purposes. This offseason they lost some of their depth and will be looking to add some quality backups who can also play on special teams.

This is where Milano can step in.

Milano is a special teams beast. He tends to be around the play and has good speed and vision to get around blockers. When watching him on special teams he loves to be one of those missile type players who look to crush the ball carrier.

The same things that make Milano good at special teams makes him a viable linebacker. He has good vision and finds his way through the crowd to track down the football. He has good straight line speed and on blitzes doesn’t stop until he gets to his blitz location.

He has good reactions and with his speed,he’s fairly good at covering tight ends. He sometimes tends to watch the quarterback a little too long and will lose his assigned receiver, but this is a fixable trait. He can lay some really good hits, but he gets a ton of leg tackles and lowers his head too much.

He will need to work on shedding blockers faster and changing directions better. He could contribute to special teams and in certain packages as a backup linebacker. He has the talent to eventually start, but will be mostly a depth player for a year or two.
