Round 6, Pick 211: OT Julie’n Davenport, Bucknell

Julie’n Davenport is the kind of kid that gets people excited. Standing 6’7” 318lbs, and blessed with superb athleticism, 36.5 inch arm length, and 10.5inch hands, Davenport has the makeup to play tackle at the pro level. But the transition will not be an easy one. Playing at a non-FBS school like Bucknell, means whoever drafts him will need to be patient as Davenport develops.

CBS Sports currently has Julie’n Davenport projected to go somewhere in either the 4th and 5th round.

He’s a player the Cowboys  have met with and will be tracking on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. If he falls to the 6th round like he did in this simulation, he’ll likely be too good to pass up.

Ideally the Dallas Cowboys would find someone who could compete for starting right tackle on Day 1. But those kinds of players disappear early and Julie’n Davenport has the potential to be a very strong tackle if he can hone his technique.

Currently the Cowboys have three legitimate options to compete at right tackle. Chaz Green, Byron Bell, and La’el Collins. The Cowboys would prefer Collins stays at guard but he has experience in college at tackle and if Green and Bell falter, he could be a Band-Aid option in 2017.

If the Cowboys get Julie’n Davenport in the 2017 draft, he’d be a favorite to claim the starting spot in 2018 and beyond.
