Week one — Sunday, September 10 vs. New York Giants, 7:30 PM CDT, NBC

The opener marks the third straight meeting between the Cowboys and Giants on opening weekend and the fifth in the past six years. Plus if you count the 2011 opener, they opened against the New York Jets. That makes this the sixth time in the past seven years that the Cowboys have started the regular season against a New York team.

What’s interesting is that it’s also the third straight season Dallas has opened against the Giants at AT&T Stadium. The two teams split the last two, but over the previous four games, the Cowboys have won three of them.

The Giants will return quarterback Eli Manning for his 14th season with New York. While he’s a bit overrated, he will have arguably the NFL’s best receiving corps catching his passes and that says a lot. With Odell Beckham, Jr., Victor Cruz and the addition of Brandon Marshall in the offseason, the Giants passing game will take over some games. Unless the Cowboys do a lot to bolster the secondary in the next few months, this matchup will give them fits.

On the ground, Rashad Jennings will get most of the carries, but the Dallas defense held him to 75 yards in last season’s opener and 45 when they met again in week 14.

The Giants were one of only two teams to beat the Cowboys in the regular season last year and they did it twice. That alone makes this a huge meeting, especially considering it’s in primetime on Sunday Night Football. Expect a shootout between two fantastic offenses.
