Now that the NFL Draft is over and a ton will be written on who the Dallas Cowboys drafted, let’s look at the undrafted free agents. So exactly, who are these guys?

The Dallas Cowboys have done well over the years with undrafted free agents. I mean Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys’ record holder in almost every passing category was one. These players sometimes turn into superstars, however, more than likely they become depth players or players who can contribute something to the team. In this draft there was a lot of talent, so there could be some gems after the draft.

Every year, I love to do this article, mostly because most of the players were guys I did little or no research on. I love digging into the tape, reading the analysis of them, and trying to figure out where they fit on the Dallas Cowboys.

In some ways I find it as more fun than the draft itself. Everyone covers the top players in the draft all the way through the middle rounds. Late round players might pop up here and there, but the undrafted players are where the fun is at.

So let’s find out who these guys are…

Jahad Thomas, RB, Temple

When you watch any film on Thomas a few things pop out right away. The first is he almost never breaks a tackle, I mean almost never. The second is he loves to use and had a good jump step. The third is that Thomas is a one cut runner. Thomas needs to add size and work on trying to break tackles, or at least learn to use a stiff arm. If there is an open seam he will hit it without fear and look to make a move.

Thomas looks to be not much more than a gadget type player. He can return kicks which could benefit him as the Dallas Cowboys do need some returners. He might be the Lance Dunbar scatback the Cowboys have wanted this offseason. While it remains to be seen, Thomas looks to be a long shot for the roster, but could sit on the practice squad.
