Cooper Rush, QB, Central Michigan

Every analysis of Rush mentions how smart he is and how he loves to study film. Watching a few games of his, you can tell he attacks defenses with his smarts and not his arm. His lack of arm strength is pretty obvious, however, on short passes and timing routes, he is spot on. I would never expect Rush to break any long runs and I won’t expect him to launch a 60 yard strike, but if he is asked to study a team, and slowly dissect the team, he could do that pretty well.

I think Rush can compete for the third string quarterback spot. His intelligence should allow him a step up on anyone else, but his arm talent could keep him on the back end of the position depth chart. There is a possibility Rush can become more, but right now I am not convinced. I would watch to see if he sticks around or ends up on the practice squad

Lewis Neal, DE, LSU

One thing I love about Neal watching his games is that he doesn’t give up. If he is pushed behind the QB, pushed outside, gets double teamed, it doesn’t matter, he will keep trying to get his job done. Now, the issue is he looks a little slow and if he is up against a powerful tackle, he could be washed out of a play. He could be a rotational guy, but I’m not sure if the Dallas Cowboys don’t ask him to add a little more weight and move inside.

If they keep him at defensive end I see him as someone who could help a ton on a corner blitz, or a linebacker blitz. He is strong enough to occupy a tackle or guard to open a hole. I wouldn’t ask him right now to be a key pass rusher, but I would ask him to open holes and take up space in the run game. I think he can find a place on the Dallas Cowboys, but again, I’m not sure if it will be end or tackle.
