Lucas Wacha, LB, Wyoming

Wacha is a local boy who took his talents to Wyoming. The first thing you notice about Lucas is he recognizes a run really quickly. He takes decent angles to the ball carrier and is a wrap-up tackler. He has a motor that doesn’t stop and comes down hill quickly. In coverage Wacha will need work. While he appears to have good sideline to sideline speed, I’m not sure that translates to speed to cover a tight end or slot receiver.

If he can put in the work on coverage Wacha could find a place on the depth chart. Right away he could contribute immediately on obvious running situations as it looks like the strong point of his play. The Dallas Cowboys do need depth at linebacker so it helps his cause, but Wacha is another player to watch in training camp.

Kennan Gilchrist, LB, App St.

Watching some game film on him he looks like he could add a little weight. However, he isn’t afraid to take on anyone. He sheds blocks well and is another linebacker who recognizes the run quickly. He takes decent lines to the ball carrier and can quickly change direction. He is a wrap-up tackler and if you remember the goal line leap by Josh Dobbs where he got stuffed against App St., that was Gilchrist. He is quick enough in coverage, but has poor footwork in coverage.

Like Wacha, Gilchrist has the ability to make the team somewhere on the depth chart. He will need to add size, but can be immediate help for the Dallas Cowboys on special team and when there needs to be a little more speed on the field. He can blitz well and takes a straight line to the QB. Another name to watch in training camp if he can make a little noise, he might be a name to watch.
