Shooting Guard: Wesley Matthews

One of the best perimeter defenders in the league, Wes Matthews provides Dallas with a much needed 3-and-D play style. The sharpshooter played in 73 games last season, starting all of them. Matthews was the Mavs’ second leading scorer (13.5 points) and also finished second in minutes per game (34.2).

The good news: you know what you’re getting from him.

The bad news: you know what you’re getting from him.

Wes is going to show up, play physical, and take a lot of outside shots. Unfortunately, he struggled shooting the ball, hitting just 39.3 percent from the floor. The three point percentage wasn’t terrible (36.3), but Dallas would love to see that get above 38 percent in 2017-18.

The only player who has a chance at snagging the starting job from Matthews is Seth Curry, who was in and out of the starting lineup last season. Nevertheless, the 30-year old is still in the back end of his prime, and is worthy of the starting position at the 2.
