Dallas Mavericks 2017-18 projected starting lineup
Small Forward: Harrison Barnes
Harrison Barnes made big strides in his first year with Dallas, leading the way in minutes (35.5 per game) and points (19.2 per game). His role as a cornerstone piece of the franchise’s future is secure, but there are still questions floating around.
Does he play the 3 or the 4? Barnes is a prototypical small forward who can slide over to power forward in small ball situations. This versatility comes in handy when Dirk needs to take a break. Yet, rebounding remains a concern when he does move down low and battle in the post with bigger fours.
The fact that HB is only 25 means that him and Dennis Smith Jr. can form a solid nucleus of talent for the post-Dirk era. But for now, Barnes would be wise to dedicate his time to learning from his favorite German frontcourt mate.
