Dallas Cowboys: Can they outrun the rest of the NFC East?
#2 — The Philadelphia Eagles
This past May, the Philadelphia Eagles went out and a made a huge splash by signing veteran running back LeGarrette Blount. The Super Bowl champion rusher gained 1,161 yards on the ground with a very pass-heavy Patriots team.
Blount’s a big playmaker that led the league in rushing touchdowns with 18 last season. Sure, you can add what he did last season with the numbers of the returning backs, to get a total of 2,431 all-purpose yards in 2016. That number would have led all teams within the division. Yet, there’s a lot more to the story with this unit.
Second year player Wendell Smallwood and rookie Corey Clement have outpaced Blount by a full yard per carry in the preseason. The word on the street is that Blount hasn’t fit the system too well and some reports show that he’s actually on the bubble this fall to even make the Eagles roster. That gives a huge red flag to the situation!
Head Coach Doug Pederson will get a lot out of his running backs and will likely eat up a lot of yards with them in his system. But with a lot left to prove on what is still a big group of raw talent, the Eagles are not the cream of the NFC East crop at running back.
