The Dallas Cowboys did what they couldn’t do last season — beat the Giants. Here are some postgame reactions from the staff here at Sport DFW…

The Dallas Cowboys exorcised some demons Sunday night when they delivered a 19-3 beat-down of the NFC East rival Giants.  After being out played and out coached twice last season, the Cowboys dominated on both sides of the ball.

Misfires and miscues kept the score close, but the Giants were never able to capitalize and lost time time of possession battle 34.14 to 25.36. Here are the Sport DFW postgame impressions:

It was far from perfect but it was still a thing of beauty. The Dallas Cowboys defense shut the Giants offense down and the Cowboys offense moved the ball at-will. Dallas had trouble getting into the endzone, something that needs to be addressed, but this was dominant play no matter how you look at it.

After misfiring early, Dak Prescott went on to pass for 268 yards on a staggering 39 attempts. True to form, he never turned the ball over and never gave the Giants defense an opportunity to turn the tide of the game.

The Cowboys defense looked extremely strong in all areas. The defense collected three sacks and few more hurries – a rarity against a quick-firing QB like Eli Manning. The linebackers swarmed to the ball and the safeties took away the big play. Film review will tell the whole story but everyone appeared to play well against a New York team that won 11 games just last season.

The one thing that surprised me more than anything else was the play of the defense. Sure, Odell Beckham wasn’t playing, and that allowed the Dallas Cowboys to focus on shorter plays, but the defense was impressive. I loved that there was more pressure than we have seen in a while. To be fair, the Giants offensive line isn’t that good, but still nice to see. The secondary played well and the loss of Scandrick will hurt, but they looked better than I thought they would.

On offense, the Dallas Cowboys look like they will be the best in the league, period. Dak Prescott looked like he missed some easy throws. It could be jitters, the Giants defense, or small errors, but either way this offense will be very hard to slow down this season. There were some mental errors, but for the first full game that is to be expected. I am not sure anyone can stop the Cowboys offense for a full game. All in all, a strong start to the season.

The Dallas Cowboys came out and jumped all over their hated rival the New York Giants to win 19-3 in convincing fashion. What stood out the most was the Cowboys defense, especially the pass rush, which sacked Giants quarterback Eli Manning three times and had an interception. The Cowboys defense forced the Giants into several three and outs and were all over the field. In fact, it took the Giants late into the 2nd quarter to to get across midfield.

The Cowboys held the Giants to 3 points. That’s a good start for this defense. And second year linebacker Jaylon Smith had seven tackles in his NFL debut.

On the other hand, the Cowboys offense was shaky at times with quarterback Dak Prescott over throwing wide open receivers. But Dak improved from last season with different audibles, which kept the Giants defense off balance and led the Cowboys up and down the field with ease. If Dak had connected with Dez on a few passes, the Cowboys would’ve blown out the Giants. Dak went 24-39 for 268 yards and one touchdown and zero interceptions. Dak performed well against a top ranked Giants defense.

To put the icing on the cake, tight end Jason Witten became the Cowboys All Time leader in receptions, passing Hall of Famer Michael Irvin.
