Fantasy Football: Top quarterback matchups for Week Three
By Carl Daley
There are a lot of big decisions fantasy owners need to make for Week Three of the NFL regular season. Here are some of the best matchups for quarterbacks.
The beginning of Week Three has begun as a wild Thursday Night Football game kicked off the festivities. This week there are a ton of tough matchups to gauge as fantasy owners gear up for Sunday.
Quarterbacks:
Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers) VS New Orleans Saints:
Newton has been limited basically all season during practice as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. On the field during an actual game he has been pretty effective however did have a somewhat below average performance in Week Two.

The Panthers quarterback should have no trouble with the Saints defense as they once again look to be one of the worst in the NFL. The New England Patriots offense feasted on the Saints secondary last week for a total of 447 passing yards so this will be Newton’s best opportunity to put up major points.
I don’t think this game will be a blowout by any means as Saints quarterback Drew Brees should keep things competitive.
Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys) VS Arizona Cardinals:
This is a bounce-back game for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. The team got pounded by the Denver Broncos in a way that the NFL has never seen before. The big takeaway was the effect of keeping star running back Ezekiel Elliott at bay, Prescott had 50 passing attempts.
His two interceptions were not entirely his fault (especially the second one that popped out of Dez Bryant’s hands). The thing to remember is that the Cowboys trust him to throw the ball that much and they should as he completed 30 of those attempts for over 200 yards.
He also added two touchdowns which helped keep his fantasy point totals relatively stable. Bottom line, in such a terrible loss, Dak still had more fantasy points than a lot of other top-tier quarterbacks in Week Two.
He should be full go for Week Three as he takes on a Cardinals defense that has allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2017.
Derek Carr (Oakland Raiders) VS Washington Redskins:
Back to back 20 plus point performances leave fantasy owners pretty satisfied with Carr over the first two games of the season. There is no chance you should shy away from him now even though Washington is a tougher matchup than expected.
Carr has not thrown a pick all season and even with cornerback, Josh Norman lurking, Carr should be in for a huge game. The one thing I would keep in mind is that this could be a blowout as the Raiders seem to be in mid-season form already.

Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) VS Cincinnati Bengals:
Rodgers should have no issue shredding the Bengals hapless defense as they will be on the field for much longer than they desire. Sure Cincinnati is tough on opposing quarterbacks when it comes to fantasy points but keep in mind that sample size consists of contests against the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans.
This means the Redskins have not seen a quarterback like Rodgers all season long and coming off of an embarrassing defeat against the Atlanta Falcons in Week Two, the Packers should be looking to make a statement.
Rodgers floor for any matchup seems to be around 20 points as he is really the cog that makes the Packers offense go. The Redskins pass rush also leaves something to be desired as the team has not really dominated the line of scrimmage all season. The Packers should come away with a morale-boosting victory in this contest.

Sleeper: Jay Cutler (Miami Dolphins) VS New York Jets:
Ahhh Jay Cutler, new and improved Jay Cutler. He is on an offense that actually works and should be ready to blow the doors off the New York Jets. His chemistry with wide receiver Jarvis Landry is undeniable and could lead to some big points from the duo.
It will not take much to take out the Jets and a proven running game will help the Dolphins offense shine. Expect Cutler to have a big day for the Dolphins.
