Fantasy football: Best wide receiver matchups for Week Five
By Carl Daley
The fifth week of the NFL regular season has begun and fantasy football owners are getting ready. Here are the best matchups for wide receivers this week.
Week Five of the NFL regular season has begun and Sunday boasts some excellent matchups for fantasy football owners. There are some big-name wide receivers looking to have their best game of the season so far and they may just have the matchups to do just that. Here are some of the best matchups wide receivers have in Week Five.
Dez Bryant VS Green Bay Packers: Dez Bryant will be returning to Green Bay a place that holds a lot of memories, none of them good. Dez will look to have his first 100 yard game of the season as he goes up against the weakest secondary he has faced all season.
On paper, the Packers have given up the 15th fewest fantasy points to wide receivers however this is not your typical matchup. The Packers are weak at stopping the ground game and that should open up some deep routes for Bryant to take advantage of.
The Packers also gave up over 100 yards to both A.J. Green and Julio Jones so if Dez plays up to his caliber, he should have a big day. The Cowboys would likely attempt to control the clock but that does not mean that won’t need to score points.
Bryant has some favorable matchups in this game, especially in the red zone. Dez will be a WR1 this week as he attempts to have his first monster game of the season.
Larry Fitzgerald VS Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles secondary is dealing with a ton of injuries and is giving up a ton of points in fantasy football this season. Fitzgerald currently has an incredible number of targets on the season as he has accumulated 41 in only four games.
He caught 26 of those passes which is better than 50 percent and has gotten into the end zone twice. The Eagles secondary currently give up 280 plus passing yards a game and Fitzgerald is Carson Palmer’s favorite target, he should have plenty of chances to get into the end zone.

Jarvis Landry/DeVante Parker VS Tennessee Titans: This is an interesting matchup for Miami’s best wide receivers. The Titans give up the 2nd most fantasy points to NFL wide receivers and even with Jay Cutler at quarterback both players should have quality production on Sunday.
It is worth noting that Jarvis Landry has been incredible for fantasy football owners, especially those who drafted them to fill out their receiving corps. This is even more applicable in PPR/Half PPR leagues where his receptions mean a lot more.
Landry has 25 of his 33 targets but Parker has only 18 out of 27 possible receptions. Parker has one touchdown on the season and while that mainly seems to be on Jay Cutler, Landry owners will be happy to see their wide receiver reel in 6-13 receptions a game even if he stays out of the end zone.
This could be the week where Landry has his first touchdown of the season. Both players are high-end WR2’s for Week Five.
DeAndre Hopkins VS Kansas City Chiefs: Hopkins is in a similar situation as Larry Fitzgerald as he is the most targeted player in the Houston offense. He has hauled in 31 of his 49 targets which shows the level of production he is capable of with Deshaun Watson under center.

Hopkins exploded last week for 107 yards and a touchdown however that was against the second worst passing defense in the league. On the plus side, Hopkins has scored double-digit fantasy points all season long and remains a red zone threat for Watson.
The Chiefs are known to have a tough defense especially in the secondary but the season-ending injury to safety Eric Berry has really knocked them off balance. Last week, the Chiefs best cornerback, Marcus Peters was routinely picked on by the Redskins offense.
Hopkins not only has the size advantage on Peters but also has some weight on him so it is possible he finds himself open a lot on Sunday. Hopkins is a strong WR1 this week.
