Cowboys crush Giants 30-10: Weekly Quick Takes

The Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants today, moving to 7-6 and keeping playoff hopes ever so slightly alive. Here are this week’s quick takes

The Dallas Cowboys had a battle on their hands when they faced the cellar dwelling New York Giants today. As often the case in division contests, the game was kept close most of the afternoon.

But when the fourth quarter hit, the Dallas Cowboys shifted to another gear. Both offense and defense stepped up and blew the game wide open.

As I predicted, the Dallas Cowboys game against the New York Giants was going to be closely contested in the beginning and then the Cowboys would beat them in convincing fashion, 30-10.

However, I didn’t think it would be tied midway into the fourth quarter, where it appeared both teams were headed into overtime. But then Dakota Prescott took over and played like the franchise quarterback he is. I was beyond impressed with how Dak led the Cowboys offense to score 27 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Dak threw two touchdowns passes to Jason Witten and Rod Smith to put the game away. But I was more impressed with how Dak read the Giants blitzes and stayed in the pocket and threw the perfect passes to Witten and Smith.

As bad as Dak played against the Eagles and Chargers, he played with composure, didn’t turn the ball over, and took the game by the reigns and won it. For all of the critics that don’t believe he’s not a franchise quarterback, you’re definitely wrong. This was a must win game, but felt more like a playoff game. And DAK was clutch when the Cowboys needed him to be.

The Cowboys receiving corps is average because of all the dropped passes. There is no excuse for Dez Bryant to drop two easy passes. Terrance Williams is just as bad. This explains why opposing defenses don’t respect the Cowboys receivers, where they jump routes or play them close to the line of scrimmage. If not for some of these dropped passes, the Cowboys could’ve put the Giants away a lot earlier.

I was very impressed with Rod Smith, scoring two touchdowns, the last one sealing a victory for the Cowboys. As good as Smith has ran the ball, why didn’t the coaching staff play him more often?

The Dallas coaching staff is not good. Period.

For the Giants to hang around as long as it did is inexcusable. Instead of going for it on 4th down, head coach Jason Garrett decides to kick a long field goal. Why? It doesn’t matter that Dan Bailey is one of the best kickers in NFL history. What matters is going for it on 4th down and PLAYING TO WIN THE GAME! NOT LOSE IT!

As impressed as I am with the Dallas victory, I’m a realist in that it’s going to be hard to win the last remaining games because of inept coaching. So let’s hope Dak can continue to play at an elite level. Because the Cowboys are going to need it moving forward.
