The Dallas Cowboys could be looking to add top-tier safety Earl Thomas to their roster for the right price. The Seattle Seahawks may want to trade him.

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off of a devastating loss against the Seattle Seahawks that have taken them out of playoff contention. Something interesting did manage to come out of what was a pretty terrible afternoon, a certain Seahawks safety indicated his interest to come to wear a star on the side of his helmet.

Earl Thomas approached Jason Garrett after Sunday’s loss with an interesting statement. “If y’all got the chance to come get me, come get me”, Thomas said as he stood in front of the Dallas Cowboys locker room.

More from Dallas Cowboys

It was an interesting moment for Cowboys fans who were supremely disappointed after a poor showing. Adding any Pro Bowl talent to the roster would only help get this team to a place where they could perform at a more consistent level.

Thomas and other Seahawks veterans have been pretty open about how underappreciated they have felt this season. If that’s not all, Earl Thomas recently had a very public disagreement with linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The “Legion of Boom” has been on the decline lately as several players have suffered season-ending injuries. There is also the matter of who will get paid in the upcoming years. Thomas is one of the players slated to be a free agent in 2019 however he is not the only player Seattle will have to pay.

Richard Sherman who has missed most of the 2017 season with a major injury will also need a new contract. Other players who are high priority targets for the Seahawks such as linebacker KJ Wright, defensive end Cliff Avril and wide receiver Paul Richardson will also see their contracts expire in 2019.

Heading into the 2018 NFL season, tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson could be free agents by the end of the season. The issue here is evident, the Seahawks will not be able to pay everyone.

Both Thomas and Sherman have suffered major injuries that have ended their season at some point during their career so Seattle could be looking for younger stars in the secondary.

The Dallas Cowboys could use Thomas on their roster as he would immediately become the best safety on the depth chart. Byron Jones should be a perennial starter for years to come however he skills are not as refined as Thomas.

Swinging a trade for Thomas would likely prove to be very difficult however the Seahawks could be receptive. They clearly do not want to offer him a new contract and he is currently one of their highest-paid players.

Next: Dez Bryant should be traded

Interestingly enough 2019 is one of the easier years for Dallas in terms of player retention. That should come to some sort of agreement with offensive lineman Zack Martin well before then and the other players who could hit free agency are not superstars.

It will be interesting to see if that would be the year that the Dallas Cowboys finally look to make a big splash in free agency.
