6th Round – Dominick Sanders – Safety – Georgia

Right now it seems a lot of draft sites have Sanders as a late round pick. Most of this is due to his size. He is more of a cornerback in terms of size and less of a true safety. However, according to WalterFootball his stock is rising. For now, we will assume he is a late round pick.

Sanders excels in pass coverage. He can play man-to-man and zone well. He would seem like a good fit over the long term at one of the safety positions. Again his size at 189 pounds means he might be better at corner or as a slot corner. He is a decent tackler and is not afraid of contact, but it is not his strength.

While Sanders could help in passing situations as a rotational player, his durability due to his size might scare of a few teams. Some will see his ball skills and overrate him and others will see his size and underrate him. He is projected at a 4.5+ 40 yard time, so how he does at the combine could help or hurt his draft stock.

This was a best player available pick, but also one that helps fill a hole in passing downs and adds some depth. The only other way I can see the Cowboys going at this point in the draft is a project running back, wide receiver, or possibly a flier on a quarterback to challenge Cooper Rush.
