1st Round –  Courtland Sutton – WR – SMU

I was really hoping that Roquon Smith would drop to the Dallas Cowboys here, but alas, in only one mock was he available. Sutton was there for the taking and while Vita Vea was the next most chosen player, Sutton seemed too good to pass up.

Sutton is widely considered to be one of the top two receivers in the draft and if he available he could very easily be the pick. WalterFootball.com has him projected as a first or second rounder and with a 4.5 40 time. While many will want a faster receiver, Sutton has all the tools to be a top wide out in the NFL. He is 6’4” and 215 pounds and watching game tape on him, he plays faster than 4.5 and runs really sharp routes that get separation.

He has good vision as a runner, strong hands, and will work back to the quarterback when he has to. He is not afraid to go over the middle and he attacks the ball at the highest point. The only knock I could find watching some games is he will at times use his body to catch the ball. It is not often and could simply be quarterback play and how the defense is playing him.

If Smith and Vea are not on the board, Sutton could easily be the pick. This draft is not deep at offensive tackle so it would not surprise me if the Dallas Cowboys go offensive line, but being a product of SMU, the Cowboys have probably seen a lot of Sutton.
