4th Round – Duke Ejiofor – DE – Wake Forest

WIth multiple picks in the fourth round, linebacker would have been the first position I was looking for. At this point much of them would have been a reach, so I went with best player available.

There were some corners, but looking at how the Dallas Cowboys invested last season, and the improved play at the end of this year, I went with defensive end to get some more pass rush.

If you don’t know Ejiofor, you should. He flew under the radar at Wake Forest and while I didn’t know much about him until I watched some tape, I walked away fairly impressed.

He is certainly not without flaws, but when he is rushing the passer and has his motor running, Ejiofor can be a problem for teams. He uses his hands well and has a good swat move to knock the hands down of tackles. He plays within himself against the run, but pass rushing is where he looks better.

He does look like he has taken some plays off, and I have to question his drive if he is game planned against. Double teams will wash him out completely. He has the ability to play inside, but will need to add a little more size if he is to do this regularly. I would have him as a situational pass rusher to begin with and work on his run defense a little more.

This was a hard place to be as corners are stacked up in the draft. I could see the Cowboys reaching a little at this point or making a move to either climb or fall. For now we will get a pass rusher and move on.
