ORLANDO, FL – DECEMBER 28: Wide receiver Marcell Ateman /

Round 4 Pick 136: Adonis Alexander – CB – Virginia Tech

With budding young talent in Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, and Anthony Brown recently added to the roster, the need for a new mid-round cornerback isn’t overwhelming. But Adonis Alexander may be too perfect to pass up at this point in the draft.

Alexander has the size everyone covets these days. Standing 6’3” and weighing in at 193lbs, he’s the type of long defensive back the Cowboys have trying to get their hands on. Often times cornerbacks this tall have stiff hips and have trouble adjusting to receiver’s breaks. Alexander is actually pretty fluid in his movement.

He’s still going to struggle against the smaller and faster receivers in the NFL but those matchups can be minimized. With big receivers like Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, and Josh Doctson headlining in the NFC East, the Cowboys could use the lengthy Alexander to shadow them on the outside.

Alexander is a pure press corner who thrives in bump-and-chase coverage used in Rod Marinelli’s single high safety look. He may be limited to just the outside CB spots, but with so many inside corners on the Cowboys already, it should not be a problem.

He’s a strong tackler and can be used interchangeably at safety in the way Xavier Woods and Byron Jones bounce around.
