Dallas Cowboys Complete 7-Round Mock Draft V1.2: Prioritizing Needs
By Reid Hanson
Caleb Wilson is a name everyone should get familiar with ASAP. The former Bruin is one of the most gifted pass-catching tight ends in the draft and could be an absolute steal in the middle rounds of the draft.
His stock is in a questionable status because he missed most of the 2017 season from a significant foot injury. But before he went out, he was ballin’. The game I saw him was against Texas A&M in the opener. Wilson owned the Aggies all day, collecting 15 balls for 208 yards.
The 6’4” 235lbs Dallas native would go on to play four more games, totaling 38 receptions for 450 yards and 1 touchdown. Despite missing most of the season, his play this season ranked him as Pro Football Focus’ top tight end bestowing upon him a 93.7 rating for his play.
Admittedly, film is still hard to come by so assessing his blocking ability is a difficult task. Being Josh Rosen’s primary weapon, he wasn’t asked to stay in and block very often. But as of now, his blocking ability is a gamble I’m willing to take in the fourth round.
Again, more film review is needed, but I see him as a TE3 in 2018 and a TE1 in 2019. He’s a very intriguing player who can thrive even when focused on by the defense.
