Round 7 – J.T. Barrett – QB – Ohio State

It’s rare that you see a 7th Round pick amount to anything more than a practice squad player, which makes it ideal to take a risk here.  Just like how the Cowboys took a chance on Rico Gathers in hopes he could become the next great Tight End, I see them following the same idea.

This time, with J.T. Barrett.  One of the best signal callers to ever play for Ohio State, J.T. Barrett put up some incredible numbers.  He passed for 9434 yards and 104 touchdowns.  He also holds several conference and school records.

Barrett’s best trait was the use of his legs.   He rushed for 3263 yards and 43 rushing touchdowns. Barrett does not have the arm to be an NFL quarterback so he would have to devote time to develop or he could always change positions like another Ohio State quarterback, Terrelle Pryor

With the Cowboys receivers needing some work, Barrett’s experience at quarterback could help him succeed in possibly converting to wide receiver.

At the very least, Barrett would provide competition for Cooper Rush at the backup quarterback spot.  Now the Cowboys rarely draft quarterbacks with no intention of using them on the active roster.  So a more likely scenario is they sign Barrett or another quarterback as an undrafted free agent to provide competition.
