Round 3 – Simmie Cobbs Jr – WR – Indiana

The Cowboys made a commitment this offseason to make the offense more “Dak-Friendly”.  The current Cowboys receivers are not the best route runners and struggle to get open at times.  Dak Prescott is not a Quarterback who can throw his receivers open which leads to him holding on to the ball too long.

Indiana Receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. is a great pick to start improving the entire receiving group.  With Dez Bryant’s impact trending downwards and his age trending upwards, Cobbs could be Bryant’s successor.  He has the skills to have a tremendous NFL career.

Over 3 years at Indiana, Cobbs had 139 receptions for 1990 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He put on a clinic against Ohio State in 2017 with 11 receptions, 149 yards, and 1 touchdown performance. Cobbs’ showcased his body control, catching ability, and route-running all throughout that game.  He was voted First Team-All Big Ten Offense in 2017.

The Cowboys receivers are in need of a “youth movement” of sorts as their top 3 receivers, Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, and Cole Beasley, are all approaching 30 years old.  With Ryan Switzer in line to succeed Cole Beasley, Cobbs could be the next Cowboys receiver of the future.
