7th Round- Dimitri Flowers – Full Back – Oklahoma

It is fullback mania in the final rounds of the 2018 NFL draft. The Dallas Cowboys are looking for a player to help lead block for Ezekiel Elliott much like Daryl “Moose” Johnston did for Emmitt Smith.

The Cowboys need a new fullback, a player who can create some space for Elliott so he can take over games and San Diego’s state’s Nick Bawdin is one of the best players you will find. He was also invited to the Senior Bowl which means he is one of the best fullbacks in the country.

He can run, he can block, but more importantly, he is strong enough to sustain those blocks.  Finding a capable fullback in this draft was made pretty evident after the Cowboys struggled to run the ball with as much dominance as they did in 2016.

A large portion of that had to do with Elliott’s suspension but ineffective fullback play could be to blame in certain instances. While fullbacks are not really weapons, Bawdin can be fairly versatile on the offensive side of the ball. His hands are not terrible and he should be a dangerous weapon for the Cowboys offense.

Flowers has more position flex as he can play special teams as well. So his usefulness is even more apparent especially on the Cowboys 53 man roster. He is slightly smaller than Bawdin but could have the same effect as a lead blocker.

NFL teams usually wait to take a fullback but Bawdin could be the exception as he could go as early as the fifth. Either one of these players would give the Cowboys running game a boost.

Alternative Pick:  Nick Bawdin – Fullback – San Diego State
