Round 6 – Taron Johnson – Cornerback – Weber State

Johnson will probably never be an outside cornerback, but that is not what I think the Dallas Cowboys will be looking for here. Johnson might be one of those slot corner types for his entire career and could be your number four or five right off the bat. He has a good eye for the ball and will play short and middle routes well. He is shifty and can stick with smaller, quicker, slot receivers.

Johnson will again never be your outside corner as he lacks the size and strength. While he is a very willing tackler, you don’t want him as your last line of defense due to his size. He doesn’t have long distance speed, but if playing the slot receiver he should be able to utilize his agility and not have to worry so much about that.

Johnson is one of those guys who could sneak in and be a surprise if put in the right role early on. This is a had place to pick as you start looking for players who can play special teams, find a role, and probably won’t make it to undrafted free agency. I think Johnson is that type of player. Damon Webb the safety out of Ohio State was the next most picked player, but with a safety going a round before Johnson won out.

Here is a good video of Johnson.
