Round 1 – Roquan Smith – Linebacker – Georgia

What is there to say that hasn’t been said about Smith? Watching Smith play, he is almost always around the ball. He is a great tackler who has the speed and ability to cover when asked. He is very smart and has an ability to think on his feet which helps him overcome his height. He changes direction well and plays sideline to sideline with the same speed he plays North and South. He projects as a Pro Bowl caliber player and would fit nicely into just about any team.

The only knock is his size, but I don’t see that as much as a problem as some might. For the Dallas Cowboys, the addition of Roquan Smith to Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee would make them an elite/the best group of linebackers in the entire NFL, if all are healthy and playing. All three have the ability to be game changers, again, as long as all are healthy.

I was surprised that Smith kept being available in many of the drafts, the early run on quarterbacks helped. Tremaine Edwards and Vita Vea would also pop up fairly often, but Smith’s talent was hard to shy away from if all three were on the board. Vea would be a smart pick as well, but Smith could become the heir apparent to Lee over the next few seasons. He and Jaylon are fantastic pieces to build on.

Here is a video of Smith against Alabama. Smith is number 3.
