Round 5 – Trayvon Henderson – Safety – Hawaii

Henderson popped up on my radar just before the Senior Bowl with an interview he did. His confidence to show teams he could be a versatile safety was what stuck out to me. Henderson played for a weak Hawaii team, so it is hard to understand just how good or bad he really is. During the Senior Bowl practices, he showed off his knack for playing the ball by making interceptions and pass breakups during the practices and in 7-on-7 drills.

Henderson has some flaws, like needing to work on his tackling technique and using the sidelines to his advantage, but his nose for the football, speed, and agility made the Houston Texans want to speak with him during the Senior Bowl week. He especially stood out against Mike Gesicki the tight end picked earlier. He is a decent tackler, but won’t light anyone up and will need to add a little size for the NFL.

This is a hard place to pick in the draft as there are some good solid role players hanging around and depending on how the actual draft goes, someone like defensive tackle Kentavius Street or offensive tackle Brett Toth could be had around this point. I went with a safety with a nose for the ball.

Here is a highlight video of Henderson. Watch his game against Nevada for a good game to see him in.
